The legacy of innovation and reliability powers on!
Nissan have a long history of building strong, dependable utes. With each new model the boundaries of innovation have been pushed, providing you with everything you need to get the job done.
Case in point, the Nissan Navara- it combines a tough working pedigree with premium ride comfort, smart technologies and sleek styling. It devours roads and you can tackle hilly terrain with more confidence and control.
We spoke to Instagram star Jason Marton of @racins_adventures about his brutish Nissan Navara which he drove around the Victorian High Country.
Tell us about the trip...
“Our last trip in my incredibly capable Nissan Navara D23 was to the awe-inspiring Victorian High Country.
We started from Bright & filled up the tanks with Alpine Diesel as we planned to scale some serious mountains!
From Bright we headed to Harrietville then turned onto the Dargo High Plains Road. This takes us to one of the best known tracks in the VHC- Blue Rag Range Track!
A challenging track in some sections with very steep climbs but the 23 took it in its stride. Nothing was a problem at all. We made the summit of Blue Rag to the Trig point by lunch time”.
Sounds awesome! And did you camp?
“Yes. I found an incredible camp on The Pinnacles which was a dream come true and I knew I would be in for just an incredible sunrise too. From camp the next morning we headed to the Township of Dargo.
From here we pushed onto the Wonnangatta track to Kingswells Bridge and then to Bill Goats Bluff track. This track is so much fun and lived up to all expectations but so did the 23. Performed better than I could of hoped and didn’t need a second bite on any section of the track.
This is testament to how good the Nissan Navara D23 with coil rear end is. And with rear locker if needed there is not many places the mighty 23 can’t go”.
And the next challenge?
“Mount Wellington, which is approx 1700 metres above sea level! An incredible climb and again not a problem for the 23. The incredible traction found from the impressive low range 4×4 system matched perfectly with Ironman Foam Cell Pro suspension and Mickey Thompson ATZ3 All terrain Tyres. This truck takes me anywhere I point it.
From Mt Wellington I pushed on through Arbuckle Junction. Tracked North up Howitt Plains track to King Billy Track. Another great test for the 23 including large Rock steps, switch backs, muddy wet sections and river crossings. Again so impressed with how this 23 deals with all the terrain it faces, taking it all in its stride”.
Why did you choose the Nissan Navara?
“The Nissan Navara D23 was an obvious choice for a number of reasons.
Coil rear end for increased day to day ride comfort and for greater capability / articulation on the tracks taking me wherever I plan safely and always in control.
Twin turbo 2.3 diesel engine is a very versatile power plant. Incredible amount of torque down low. With a very impressive fuel economy on and off the tracks.
All the creature comforts inside the cabin. With all the standard inclusions and technology you would expect in a standard passenger car not a pick-up truck.
Fantastic 7 speed gear box with Low Range that’s perfectly geared for off road use. And the rear locker coming standard is a massive inclusion and a must on the tracks.
Who can’t mistake that aggressive stance the 23 has with the DRL’s and LED head lights”.
The most memorable moment in the Nissan was...
“This truck gets a lot of attention I must admit. A lot of people stop and say hello either on the tracks or at the shops, or say G’day and always ask about the mighty 23. It inspires people to buy a Nissan Navara and go on their own adventures.
Ultimately if I’m helping inspire others with what I’m doing in my mighty 23, it doesn’t get better than that in my opinion!”
